 | The McGladrey Team Championship The McGladrey Team Championship is an exciting nationwide amateur championship managed by The PGA of America, in partnership with RSM McGladrey, the organization's official accounting, tax and business consulting firm. The Team Championship brings together amateur golfers and PGA professionals for a one-of-a-kind grassroots competition. This unique event, in its third year, is about teamwork. It reflects RSM McGladrey's belief that - whether in business or in golf - with the right team, anything's possible.
The Team Championship consists of three rounds: Local Qualifying Events, Section Championships and the National Championship. Local Qualifying Events begin in January and run through August. Winning teams at Local Qualifying Events progress to Sectional Championships, which are scheduled between April and September. At the Section level, teams are joined by The PGA Professional from their local club to make a team of four. Finally, from October 26-28, the 41 Sectional Champion teams converge on Pinehurst's Course Nos. 2, 4 and 8 for the National Championship. The Special Olympics golf program is the official charity of The McGladrey Team Championship, which provides Special Olympics athletes with financial support as well as opportunities to enhance their golf game through participation in The Team Championship events across the country. For 2009, The Team Championship will donate $2 from every Local Qualifying Event entry fee to the Special Olympics golf program, which boasts more than 17,000 athletes. The McGladrey Team Championship/Special Olympics partnership also creates opportunities for RSM McGladrey employees and clients to get involved with The Team Championship through volunteerism. During the National Finals, The Team Championship will host a silent auction with donated items from Pinehurst, The PGA of America, Special Olympics supporters and Team McGladrey PGA Tour professionals Zach Johnson and Chris DiMarco, and LPGA Tour professional Natalie Gulbis, who serves as spokesperson for The McGladrey Team Championship/Special Olympics partnership.
